Title One Program
Hancock County Schools strive to afford all students the academic skills necessary to become productive members of society.
The schoolwide Title I program in Hancock County provides federal funding to qualifying schools to supplement educational opportunities for children in the areas of reading / math.
Title I teachers work with students in small groups either in class or in the Title I classroom. Additional instruction is also offered after school as well as during the summer. The purpose of the instruction is to help students attain mastery of the WV College and Career Ready Standards. The SPL (Supports for Personalized Learning) model is an integral part of this instruction.
Another part of the Title I program is to create positive home-school relationships and to support parents. By forming partnerships between the home and school, teachers and parents (along with community members) work together to help students achieve academic success. Each Title I school has a PAC (Parent Advisory Committee). In addition, there is also a county PAC. The purpose of the committee is to plan, review and improve the Title I program. All parents are encouraged to become a member of the school/county PAC. Individuals interested in participating should contact Andrea Dulaney, Title I Director at 564-3411 ext. 3327.
The FLAG (Family Literacy Action Group) focuses on providing parents with information on child development and child rearing in addition to strategies parents can use at home to help their children achieve better reading and math skills. The parental programs (FLAG) foster family literacy and encourage parents to be teachers at home. It also supports parents in becoming actively involved in their child’s education.
